Fashion lovers have always scoured mags about gossip and fashion to rob hip concepts from the wealthy and famous. Identifying items celebs wear has been a popular feature on fashion blogs and the websites of mags like Lucky and InStyle, but they do it with only a few photographs. And only a few use it as a technique to brace e-commerce and advertising income. Firms like GumGum and Pixazza tag the snappers photographs with links for purchasing the garments.

Celebrity sites are a glaring place to begin with this business, but stills all over the Web could be turned into advertisements or e-commerce portals, announced Bob Lisbonne, CEO of Pixazza. Pixazza plans to add sites that cover travel, sports and interior decor. 20 p.c of Web real estate is image space, and its not particularly monetized well at all, he claimed. Pixazza has raised $5.8 million from stockholders, including Google Ventures, and GumGum has raised $3.9 million from First Round Capital and others. How good a business offer celebrity fashion snaps are is yet to be seen.

Though many of us glance at the outfits, it isn't clear how many buy the garments from the sites. Even when they do, the publishers and ad firms receive only a tiny fragment of the sale.

Kate Mitchell, twenty-seven, works in tech support in Denver and examines gossip blogs to get fashion ideas from stars, but she infrequently purchases. Instead, she uses the concepts to come up with new methods to wear things she already owns, she revealed. I was so happy because I was like, I own that dress which was like $40, she claimed.
