Giving politics a celebrity boost.

There are no longer several places where you may find Kylie Minogue hanging out with freedom director Shami Chakrabarti and model Lily Cole. Ms Sarpong has an MBE for services to broadcasting and charity work But 31-year-old June Sarpong, best called the face of Channel four's youth programme T4, reckons there's an opening in the market for trendy youthful ladies who like celebs and gossip - but also need to keep on current affairs. She has got launched a site - Politics and the town - to cover, politics, reports, fashion, beauty, gossip and music. She is saying it'll include blogs created by Tamara Mellon, Natasha Bedingfield, Kathy Lette, Baroness Amos and Kelly Hoppen. "I think girls in this country feel disenfranchised, politically" she claimed to The Independent. "It is silly that it's such a male-dominated area when it is something that affects us all. "So several of my fiances, who are smart, successful ladies, don't have a clue about politics - and it isn't as they do not want to" she is saying. "Often they do not feel assured speaking up as they don't feel well informed enough. Papers think an horrible lot of information. Whilst she's got interviewed world figures like Nelson Mandela, Tony Blair, Bill Clinton, Al Gore and Gordon Brown - there is still one person who eludes her. I believe he has got that Blair factor, re making you feel extremely important" she revealed. "I like what he's doing on family and in making the Conservative Party more trendy. You do not know what folks are truly like till they are in power." But the previous fiance of Labour minister David Lammy believes glad-handers shouldn't be permitted to be in power forever. |
